Lake Quinault, Washington

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, 25th April is our 30th wedding anniversary!
A year of travel in a tin can hasn’t broken the love !  It’s just an unfortunate coincidence that our first stop in Washington State is Cape Disappointment!

The only disappointment is Washington State Parks are not free like Oregon, so it cost us $10 for 30 minutes in the park.  Dumped the tanks and filled with water to try to get some extra value.
A brief stop at South Bend for a pic of the historic courthouse.
Then Raymond for a lunch stop. They had lots of steel sculptures on the roadside.
Hoquiam Castle wasn’t quite what we expected.

There was an option here to take HW109 to the coast, but given the weather conditions we decided the best place to be in the rain is a rainy place. Rain is measured in feet per annum here – more than 12 feet per year. So on to Lake Quinault and the Rain Forest.  We entered on the South Shore Road, and found a short Nature Trial.
Then dropped in to the Ranger Station and wandered down to the lakeside and up to the Quinault Lodge.  A bit fancy for hiking boots !  Considered having dinner there until we saw the wine list, and they were the specials!
Drove along to see the biggest Spruce tree, then tried to find the Merriman Falls without luck.
Parked up at the Gatton Creek Trail head,  seemed steathly enough for the night, and cracked a bottle of bubbly from Sonoma to celebrate our anniversary.  Chef whipped up a tasty meal, we’ll wait till Canada to find a Japanese restaurant for a real dinner.
After 30 years, Together is still our favourite place to be !

Been that long. Seems only like yesterday that you left. Looks like you are having a great time there and soon heading north for the summer..
